Moving to Memphis for an Amazon Job: Apartment Checklist

A practical checklist for relocating to Memphis for an Amazon role — what to confirm, gather and schedule, in order.

Moving to Memphis for an Amazon Job

A checklist in the order that actually saves you trouble — from confirming your site to your first shift.

Relocations go wrong in predictable ways, and nearly all of them come from doing sensible things in the wrong order.

This is the sequence we recommend to people relocating for a Memphis Amazon role, based on where their questions actually arrive.

About travel times. We do not publish drive-time figures between our rentals and any employer site. Any travel time you see elsewhere is an estimate. Confirm your reporting address with your employer and drive the route yourself, at the hours you will actually travel it.

The four things to settle first

Site address

Not the city, not the employer — the building and the entrance you report to.

Shift

Fixed or rotating, days or nights. This narrows the realistic unit list faster than budget does.

Assignment length

Permanent, seasonal or agency. This decides what lease term makes sense.

How firm the start date is

Start-date changes move dates. Know whether yours is confirmed or provisional.

Working to a start date? Tell us the date and we will tell you what is realistic.

Then work through this in order

  1. Set the budget
Rent, utilities, internet, renters insurance and transport, as one monthly number.
  2. Shortlist from live availability
    Only from current listings.
  3. Check the route
Drive or map it at your real hours, both directions.
  4. Tour
A self-guided tour, or a video walkthrough of the specific unit if you are out of state.
  5. Apply
Through the online application, with documents ready for every adult.
  6. Sign and set up services
Read the lease in full, then arrange utilities and renters insurance for the move-in date.
  7. Move in with a buffer
A few days before day one, so your first week of work is not also your first week of unpacking.

The two mistakes that cost the most

Waiting for starting work to finish before starting the search. Inventory turns over continuously, and the unit you bookmarked three weeks ago is frequently gone. Searching early costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Booking a move-in for the day before day one. Something always runs late — a delivery, a utility connection, a key handover window. A few days of buffer converts a stressful first week into an ordinary one.

Neither of these is about being organised in the abstract. They are about keeping options open for as long as the decisions are still reversible.

Documents and details to have ready

  • Government photo ID for every adult on the lease
  • Written offer letter showing start date and pay terms
  • Rental history with contact details for recent landlords
  • Placement paperwork if you are through a staffing agency
  • A realistic move-in date, ahead of your first shift
  • Questions about utilities, parking and pets answered in writing
  • Utility and renters insurance set up scheduled for move-in

Frequently asked questions

How early should I start looking?

Roughly 30 to 45 days before your move-in date. Earlier and much of what you see will be leased before you arrive; later and you are choosing from what is left.

Can I apply before my first pay stub?

Commonly yes — a written offer letter usually stands in for proof of income. Approval is never guaranteed.

What if my start date moves?

Tell us as soon as you know. Before a lease is signed there is often flexibility; after signing, the lease terms govern.

Do you offer Amazon employee housing?

No. We are an independent property manager, and everyone leases on the same terms regardless of employer.
