What to weigh when renting near an Amazon site in Memphis — confirming your building, checking your own route, and choosing a unit that suits your shift.

Apartments Near Amazon in Memphis

How to choose a rental around a Memphis fulfillment, sortation or delivery role — and what to confirm before you sign anything.

“Near Amazon” is not one place. Amazon operates several facility types around the Memphis metro, and they are not clustered together. A fulfillment centre, a sortation site and a delivery station can sit in different parts of the region entirely.

That makes the first step non-negotiable: get the building address, not the employer name. Everything else in your search — which areas are realistic, which route you drive, what a sensible commute looks like — depends on it.

This guide covers what to check once you have that address, written for people who have already accepted the role and now need somewhere to live.

About travel times. We do not publish drive-time figures between our rentals and any employer site. Any travel time you see elsewhere is an estimate. Confirm your reporting address with your employer and drive the route yourself, at the hours you will actually travel it.

What to confirm before you shortlist

There is more than one Amazon building in Memphis, and they are not near each other. Which one you report to decides which side of the city it makes sense to rent on — so before comparing apartments, confirm the site name on your offer.

Your building and entrance

Ask your employer for the site address and the gate or door you report to. Large sites can have several, and they are not always reached from the same direction.

Your shift

Front-half, back-half, days or nights changes which units are realistic. If your shift is not final, favour a location that works for either.

Assignment type

Permanent, seasonal or agency placement each suggest a different lease length. Ask about term options before you apply, not after.

The actual route

Drive it in both directions at your real hours. Shift change around large sites behaves nothing like ordinary rush hour.

Parking at both ends

Where you park at work, and how far you park from your own door. On a ten-hour day, the second one matters more than people expect.

Move-in timing

Start dates move. Keep your move-in flexible while the date is still soft.

How to run the search

  1. Confirm the site address
In writing, from your employer. Do not shortlist before you have it.
  2. Set a total monthly budget
Rent plus utilities plus transport — not rent alone. Our cost of living guide lists the categories.
  3. Work only from current availability
Start at current listings. Older search results waste days you may not have.
  4. Tour the specific unit
Book a self-guided tour, or ask us for a video walkthrough if you are still out of state.
  5. Apply with documents ready
Submit through the online application. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
  6. Coordinate move-in with day one
Aim for a few days before your first shift, not the morning of it.

Where people get this wrong

The most common mistake is optimising for map distance. Two apartments an equal distance from a site can sit on completely different routes, and only one of them may be predictable at shift change. The only way to know is to drive both.

The second is waiting for starting work to finish before starting the search. Inventory turns over continuously; the unit you bookmarked three weeks ago is frequently gone. Searching early costs nothing, and you can hold off signing until your start date firms up.

Before you apply

  • Site address and reporting entrance confirmed in writing
  • Shift assignment confirmed, or a location that works for either
  • Route driven or mapped at your real start and end times
  • Total monthly budget set, including utilities and transport
  • Photo ID and offer letter ready for every adult applying
  • Lease term discussed against the length of your assignment
  • Move-in date targeted a few days before your first shift

Frequently asked questions

Which Memphis area is closest to Amazon?

It depends entirely on which site you report to — Amazon operates more than one facility type in the region. Confirm your building address with your employer first, then evaluate areas against that specific location.

Do you publish drive times to Amazon sites?

No. We do not publish drive-time figures for any employer. Any travel time you see elsewhere is an estimate; drive your own route at your own hours.

Is ELM affiliated with Amazon?

No. We are an independent property management company. No apartment we manage is affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon, and there is no employer housing programme.

Can I lease before I arrive in Memphis?

Yes — see our guide to renting before you move. Self-guided tours, an online application and an electronic lease make it practical.
