What to gather before applying for a Memphis apartment as a new Amazon employee — including offer letters and agency placements.
Documents to Prepare Before You Apply
What a Memphis rental application asks for when you have not started work yet.
Applications rarely stall for dramatic reasons. They stall because a document is missing, a reference does not answer, or an occupant was not listed.
If you are starting a new role, one specific question comes up every time: how do you prove income you have not yet received? The answer is usually simpler than people expect.
About travel times. We do not publish drive-time figures between our rentals and any employer site. Any travel time you see elsewhere is an estimate. Confirm your reporting address with your employer and drive the route yourself, at the hours you will actually travel it.
What is commonly requested
Government photo ID
For every adult who will live in the unit — not just the person signing.
Proof of income
Recent pay stubs, or your written offer letter if you have not started. The letter should show employer, role, start date and pay terms.
Rental history
Addresses and contact details for recent landlords, or an explanation if you are renting for the first time.
References
Employer contact details and personal references, depending on the application.
Agency paperwork
If you are placed through a staffing firm, bring whatever they provide in writing.
Seasonal documentation
If your role has a defined term, have that in writing so the lease conversation is grounded in it.
Not sure what applies to your situation? Ask before you apply rather than after.
The offer-letter question
A written offer letter commonly does the work that pay stubs would when you have not started. What causes friction is a letter missing the start date, the pay terms, or any indication that it is final. Ask your employer for a version that includes all three.
If conditions are still outstanding — a pre-start checks, for instance — say so. It can affect how an application is assessed, and surfacing it late helps nobody.

- References warned that someone will contact them
- Agency or placement paperwork if applicable
- A realistic move-in date
- Written answers on utilities, parking and pets

Frequently asked questions
Will an offer letter work instead of pay stubs?
It commonly does when you have not started yet. Bring it in writing with the start date and terms visible.
Does submitting an application guarantee approval?
No. Applications are reviewed against the property’s criteria. Anyone promising guaranteed approval should be treated with suspicion.
Do all adults need to apply?
Typically yes. Confirm before submitting so nothing is delayed at the end.
What if I am on a seasonal contract?
Ask about lease term before applying, so the lease end and the assignment end are not in conflict.
