A practical method for finding a Memphis apartment near a new workplace, starting from the worksite rather than the map.
Finding an Apartment Near Your New Job
Start from the worksite and work outward — not from a list of neighbourhoods.
Most people start an apartment search with a list of areas. If you are relocating for a job, that is backwards.
Start from the single fixed point in your week — where you have to be, and when — and let the map fall out of that.
The method
Fix the worksite
Get the exact address and reporting entrance in writing. Employer names are not addresses.
Fix the hours
Your actual start and end times, including whether they rotate.
Test routes, not radii
Drive or map the route at those hours in both directions. Distance is a poor proxy here.
Add your other fixed points
School, family, a hospital, the airport — whatever else you visit weekly.
Then filter by unit
Only now do bedrooms, laundry and parking come into it.
Confirm availability last
A perfect unit that is not available on your date is not a candidate.
Tell us your worksite area and hours and we will tell you what we have that fits.
Why this order works
Neighbourhood-first searches produce shortlists full of places that look right and commute badly. Worksite-first searches produce shorter lists that survive contact with a Tuesday morning.
It also protects you from the most expensive relocation mistake: choosing an area on impression, then discovering the commute only at the end of your first week, when you are locked into a lease.
Your search checklist
- Worksite address and entrance confirmed in writing
- Actual working hours confirmed, including rotations
- Route driven or mapped at those hours, both directions
- Other weekly destinations mapped
- Unit requirements listed: bedrooms, laundry, parking, storage
- Availability confirmed for your specific move-in date
- Total monthly budget set, including transport
Current ELM rentals
Our Memphis rentals include apartments in the Raleigh area of northeast Memphis. Availability changes frequently, so the listings page is the current source of truth.
Frequently asked questions
Do you publish drive times from your rentals to employers?
No. We do not publish drive-time figures for any employer or worksite. Any travel time you see elsewhere is an estimate — drive it yourself.
What if I do not know my worksite yet?
Learn the market, but hold off signing. The worksite determines whether an area works at all.
How do I compare two areas fairly?
Drive both routes at the same time of day, in both directions, and compare total monthly cost rather than rent alone.
Can you tell me which area is best?
Not honestly, without knowing your worksite, hours and household. Tell us those and we will tell you what we have.
