The hardest part of an international relocation is rarely the flight. It is that the ordinary evidence a rental application expects — credit file, rental history, recent pay records — is in a country the application cannot see.
Raise it first, not last
Tell the property manager your situation before you apply. It is a common one, and it is far better handled at the start than discovered halfway through. What we cannot do is promise approval — applications are reviewed against the property’s criteria regardless of circumstances.
What to have ready
- Appointment or offer letter showing role, start date and term
- Passport and immigration or visa documentation
- Any proof of funds or financial documentation you can provide
- A written explanation of the absence of US credit or rental history
- Contact details for a prior landlord abroad, if you have one
Timing around immigration processing
Visa processing dates move. Avoid committing to a move-in date that assumes the best case, and tell us early if the timeline shifts — before a lease is signed there is usually more room than after.
