Housing Near Memphis International Airport

Rental guidance for people whose work keeps them close to the airport and the surrounding freight and logistics district.

Memphis International Airport anchors a substantial freight and logistics sector, and a great many jobs in this metro are organized around it — a lot of them overnight.

If your work keeps you close to it, proximity is a genuine advantage. The trade-offs are worth naming honestly rather than pretending they do not exist.

About travel times. We do not publish drive-time figures for any employer or worksite. Any travel time you see elsewhere is an estimate; confirm your worksite address with your employer and drive or map the route yourself, at the hours you will actually travel it.

Relocation considerations

Proximity versus preference

A shorter, more predictable commute is worth a great deal on a rotating schedule. Areas near any airport also carry aircraft and freight activity — a personal tolerance question. Visit and judge for yourself.

Daytime sleep

Overnight operations mean sleeping while the world is awake. Bedroom placement, curtains and climate control matter more than space.

Shift-change traffic

Traffic around large sites behaves differently from ordinary rush hour. Drive your route at your hours, both directions.

Parking and arrival

Where you park relative to your door matters at the end of a long shift, especially in bad weather.

Late-hours errands

If you finish at 3am, what is open near you matters more than the daytime character of the area.

Assignment length

Contract, seasonal and permanent roles imply different lease terms. Ask before you apply.

Leasing before you arrive

Airport-area roles often start quickly. Leasing remotely is usually the only way to have keys before your first shift.

  1. Confirm what is available for your date
Start from our current listings rather than an older search result.
  2. Tour it
Book a self-guided showing, or ask us for a video walkthrough of the specific unit if you cannot travel.
  3. Ask your questions in writing
Utilities, parking, pets, lease term and move-in timing — before you apply, not after.
  4. Apply online
Submit through our application with your documents ready. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
  5. Read and sign the lease
Term, rent due date, utilities, maintenance process and end-of-term conditions.
  6. Set up move-in
Utilities in your name and renters insurance active for the move-in date, then schedule your key handover.

Documents to prepare

Bring whatever documents your employer or agency provides in writing.

  • Government photo ID for every adult on the lease
  • Proof of income — recent pay stubs, or your offer letter if you have not started
  • Rental history with contact details for recent landlords
  • Employer contact details and personal references
  • Offer or placement letter with your start date
  • Agency documentation, if you are placed through one

Showing options

Self-guided showings let you view a unit at the hours you would actually be home — which is the only honest way to judge noise.

What proximity buys and costs

A shorter, more predictable commute is worth a great deal when you are working overnight or on a rotating schedule — it is the difference between arriving rested and arriving frayed. But proximity to any airport is a trade, not a free win: the closer you sit, the more you live with aircraft movement, freight traffic and roads built for logistics rather than for residents. Decide which of those you can absorb before you shortlist, because the trade is easier to accept when you chose it deliberately.

We do not publish drive times

Any travel time you see anywhere — here or elsewhere — is an estimate. The airport area covers many separate employers and buildings, and the difference between two of them can be larger than the difference between two neighbourhoods. Confirm your reporting address and entrance with your employer in writing, then drive the route yourself at the hours you would actually work it, in both directions. That single hour of checking is worth more than any published figure.

Frequently asked questions

Is housing near the airport noisy?

It varies by exact location and building. The only reliable test is standing in the specific unit at the hours you care about.

Do you publish drive times to the airport?

No. Any travel time you see anywhere is an estimate. Drive your own route at your own hours.

Is ELM affiliated with any airport employer?

No. We are an independent property management company with no employer affiliation.

Can I lease before relocating?

Yes — see the remote leasing guide.

What if I work rotating shifts?

Prioritize a unit that works for both. It is the cheapest insurance against a schedule change.
